  Prostate Cancer Symptoms

Early prostate cancer rarely causes symptoms. But symptoms do often occur if the cancer becomes more developed. These symptoms include:
  • Frequent need to urinate, especially at night
  • Difficulty in starting urination, or in holding back urine
  • Inability to urinate
  • Weak or interrupted urine stream
  • Burning or otherwise painful urination
  • Difficulty in attaining erection of the penis
  • Painful ejaculation
  • Blood in urine or semen
  • Pain or stiffness in the lower back, hips, or upper thighs

Most often, these symptoms will indicate benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), not prostate cancer, but prostate cancer should be ruled out.

Clinical laboratory tests results should be interpreted in light of the total clinical presentation of the patient, including symptoms, clinical history, data from additional tests and other appropriate information.
